With 53 cities and 5 million people, sometimes you need "unique" solutions for difficult challenges.
In a region where so many people live, and large industrial settlements were established early on, continuous transformation creates a significant need for renovation in buildings and other infrastructure. Demolition and refurbishment generate vast quantities of older insulation materials such as glass wool or stone wool, which need to be disposed of. However, disposal is currently only possible via landfill. Yet, available landfill space is becoming increasingly scarce. The bulky nature of the insulation materials consumes space that is also needed for other waste.
The "Central Landfill Emscher Bruch" in Herten, operated by the AGR Group, is now relying on the latest technology from Europress Umwelttechnik to manage this landfill space sustainably.
Europress Umwelttechnik supplied one of the world’s largest compression systems for man-made mineral fibres to the landfill and commissioned it in collaboration with the operators.
The technical specifications, agreed upon with the operators in advance, now allow the material to be deposited in compacted form as rectangular bales weighing up to 1,600 kg each. This requires the enormous dimensions of the crawler-mounted, fully self-sufficient machine.
The overall weight of the system is approximately 250 tonnes. A platform with an area of 180 square metres has been created on the crawler track to accommodate the various components. The main press cylinder has a pressing force of 280 tonnes and requires an oil tank with a volume of 8,000 litres. The feeding chute is positioned at a height of 6.5 metres. The total installed power of the system is around 430 kW. Its closed construction and installed negative pressure maintenance system, equipped with the highest quality filters, ensure compliant operation.
This "unique" system is well-suited to the Ruhr metropolis and will contribute to ensuring that the AGR Central Landfill can operate in a resource-efficient manner in the future.
